The Valencian artist Paco Roca is the creator of Fantabulous poster of this issue of COMIC MOSTRA. A perfect excuse to chat with the famous National Comic Award for his superb "Wrinkle" (2007) as we take a double espresso.

How do you think of the poster?

Make the sign of your city is always a difficult assignment. Much responsibility. I worked with different ideas, some more graphic and more suggestive. We finally decided to go the way of the latter.

A WORLD OF FANTASY

Pumby, Batman, Mortadelo, Hellboy, Mazinger Z, Captain Haddock ... Has many references and transports you to a lost world, a mythical city of comics. Was that the intention?

Yes, the idea with the poster was transported to the wonderful world that is the medium of comics. That's what making a Comic Mostra, where readers get carried away and discover the infinite possibilities of this world. The scenario is typical of those lost worlds of classic adventure films. The selection of characters, are those that have been adapted in some way to the cinema or television. They are the meeting point between cinema and comics.

to reach this final lineup, do you work on other ideas that have been left out? Yes

ideas were more graphic, more conceptual. For example, a sort of collage of icons in the world comic. There are cartoon characters that have become so iconic to manipulate images created squeaky.

"Are you more than Superman, Batman, Spiderman or Mortadelo and Philemon?

I've been through them all, I had my stage and my time Mortadelo superheroes. Maybe I was hooked ever is Superman, which is like the character of Tintin: cloyingly good. Anyway, the characters rely heavily on the authors behind it. Spiderman had great stories to Steranco Romita and hooked me up with Batman and Frank Miller.

change of pace ... How is it "The Draughtsman's Winter" (2010), your last job?

the moment is doing very good reviews and sales. The second edition is almost exhausted. Eleven thousand copies sold in a few months and three nominations for the upcoming Barcelona Comic Convention. But the most beautiful are the letters from people like Francis G. Ledesma (which is one of the protagonists of the story) or the daughter of Jose Escobar (the creator of Zipi and Zape) thanking me for telling that story.

is a 2D animation film. At this time is running out to encourage and in autumn 2011 will be released. Features the voice of Joseph Sexton in the starring role. It's very exciting to see the film progresses and your character will start to walk and talk. Of course, with the effort of many people spread throughout Spain. That's one of the good things in a movie: your idea becomes part of a project of many people, specialists in different fields.

Mostra festival is an action adventure. What are your 3 favorite movies of the genre, those with the best you have you got?

"Blade Runner", "The Star Wars" and "Jason and the Argonauts." The latter would hypnotize me when I saw on TV was small. It seemed magical. The other two must be the movies that I have sometimes seen. "The Wars" by nostalgia, and "Blade Runner" because it is a great movie and the atmosphere of the city of Los Angeles is very suggestive, crowded streets and abandoned buildings.
